Michelle’s Fruit—An Amazon.com trainee story
There once was a young girl named Michelle. She was a trainee. She had
a piece of fruit. Michelle was loose with her fruit. So her fruit
ended up at the feet of a boy named Ashley. This is a funny name for a
boy but that was his name just the same. He was also a trainee. What a
coincidence that was.
Ashley took Michelle’s fruit. He thought it was his for the
taking because it resembled his own fruit so well. And, well,
there it was at his feet. Though he couldn’t remember putting
his own fruit down. He guarded his fruit better than Michelle
did her own.
Michelle protested: “Hey! That’s mine.”
He thought she was just trying to flirt with him so he said,
“Nerts,” though he was secretly very excited that she was
flirting with him. This goes to show how painful
misunderstandings can be.
Throughout the day Michelle accused Ashley of being a Fruit
Thief. What a terrible thing to say about another person.
Still, she thought it was true. He thought she must really
like him to keep flirting all day.
After lunch she said, “I cannot believe you ate my fruit.”
He said, “I didn’t,” because he hadn’t had any fruit at all
for some time. He continued, “And you can’t have my fruit.”
You see how he was still not getting it.
At the end of the day Ashley opened up his bag to put away his
trainee notes. Lo! There were two pieces of fruit. His and
hers.
He returned her fruit to her. Everyone was still very suspicious
that he might really be a Fruit Thief so they kept an eye on
him in case. He was sad because now he knew Michelle didn’t
like him. She just wanted her fruit back that whole time. He
was also sad that he’d had the chance to eat her fruit and
missed it.
