Subject: visitations and whatnot....
i never knew submission would be such an intricate trial. usually
one’s neck is placed under the boot and that’s it - but finding this
link has been more exacting, more humiliating. i congratulate you. no
one will write into sedition who hasn’t suffered.... meanwhile, i just
wrote and lost a long letter detailing my decade of
decomposition…the four days of beautiful lunacy in zambia, the
psychiatric wards, the comedy of being very nearly thrown out of the
university of london.... i’m in the burrough of islington as spacetime
hurls this machine and me along. the bricks are weary and dickensian
as ever - the english sky looks like a cancerous lung preserved in
brine.... i have a short story i’d like to submit.... mainly i just
wanted to say hello (as inane a greeting as it is, especially after
some seven years. i wanted to tell you that your days of exile are
finished…whether you like it or not.... pity i lost the first
magnificent letter to the wiles of this blinkering cyclops. it was
very nearly a literary work. very articulate. i sang out praises for
your radical departure into fatherhood. man! that’s no small thing!
now i have to go read another article on habermas’ conflation of
understanding and agreement in ideal speech conditions. it’s a
cognitive revolution, i can tell you - really incendiary stuff. i
half-wish i had been thrown out of this place a week ago… but
diplomacy and the idea that i would owe the federal government 20
large without having a little certificate for my indebtedness kept me
rooted.... kafka called it the brute course of life....
you and me, boy!
